[Tutorial] make IWI with GIMP

GIMP is a free kind of photoshop.

Need for the tutorial.

• GIMP
  
• gimp-dds
  
• Iwi to dds (not need for tutorial but if you change some iwi's)
  
• dds to iwi
  
• IWIFixer
  

I will make a image for the menu background of Black ops Multiplayer.


1. start GIMP.

2. make a new image of 1024 X 1024

3. make your own image.
4. make only one layer on your image


5. save the image as .dds

6. set to DXT1 if there no alpha




7. use DDS to IWI to make a IWI


8. now have you a .iwi file. change the name of the file to menu_mp_background_main2.iwi for the menu background

9. use IWIfixer
In the picture you see on the costum menu.iwi this must menu_mp_background_main2.iwi.

you need a orginal iwi. I use the original of the menu(menu_mp_background_main2.iwi.)

10. make a map images and put the iwi intro it.
11. make a zip with the map in. and change the .zip to .iwd

12. put the image intro your mod folder.
13. change the name of the .iwd to mp_<your mod name>.iwd
14 and start your mod.

I downloaded Photoshop while I have no clue on how to use it. But now I can use gimp again

I prefer PS cs5 'cause is portable and you can use it even wt aftereffect other good tool to edit maps, but thanks nice tutorial...
To use PS you need add .dds plug in

I have scan the file for you. and some virus scan see it as a virus. but I think it's not a virus

I get an error : dds plugin cannot save the image. Doesnt mtter which compression, I just cant save to .dds with that plugin
