if im open a private match other people can see it in the unranked matches?

If my friend starts a private match while he runs the mod, everybody can join him. But If I run the (same) mod, nobody joins me? Why is that? Do I need to change anything in my internet settings?

It's because your ports aren't forwarded(probably).
