on open on a itemdef? or only menudef?

i basically want an itemdef to open a script response line like a menudef can, is that possible?

itemDef - items like texts, shaders
menuDef - menu creating .

yeh, i know that, when an item opens or is visible is it possible to send a command response like it is with menu def?
