Understandably Sony has vowed to close off security holes that have been dug by certain groups over Christmas. Some firmware came out recently.

It would appear Sony's first attempt through a mandatory PSN update has failed as Wii hacker Youness Alaoui claims to have the 3.56 signing keys.

Doubt has been cast on Sony's claim it can fight the problems with software updates. This quick hack of the firmware seemingly confirms those fears. Hacker 'KaKaRoToKs' broke the firmware within hours of its posting.

Custom firmware spoofs the current mandatory PS3 firmware version so it can keep running with complete access to the PlayStation Network. This has led to hacks of multiplayer games which is giving studios a major concern for the future.

Say hello to PS3 Homebrew!

Sony broke Nintendo's record of updating the firmware and getting hacked in 2 days :o
Its kinda funny that the same people from wiihacking (Marcan for example) are doing the same with the PS3 :p The wii didnt have any multiplayer protection but its strange they still have access to PSN with hacked firmware.
Very sad for sony, they work weeks on a security fix...
...and it gets hacked in some hours.

They could better stop making security fixes and just say: YOU WON GUYS!
