Making an apocalyptic themed Minecraft map

[AZUMIKKEL]

So lately I've been considering setting up a Minecraft server whenever I get the money for it. Focussed on PvP of course. I'm going to make this a progress and requesting-ideas thread for the map I've started to work on for this server. It is also partly for myself to keep track of the things that need doing.

With a radius of 7,000 I set my PC to start generating the terrain yesterday morning at 7:45 and it finished at 23:33. Then I used 30 more minutes to import the world into Worldpainter.

A lot to work on here, so I started off with turning a small part of the ocean into lava.

Emphasis on 'small'

Will need to build dams on the 7 river lava/water intersections marked with white circles here

-5575, 3400
-5375, 3150
-5300, 3150
-4585, 3710
-4525, 4650
-4500, 4750

Made a neat "little" volcano island of cobble and stone, with obsidian around the lava for players to gather.

For size comparison, the island is about 450 blocks wide, while a player with render distance on 'far' can see in a ~200 block radius.

A couple ingame screenshots of said island. Still needs a couple tweaks.

What's your FPS and GPU?

Made a snow mountain area and made the snow on the volcano island more convincing, while also fixing some wall artifacts.

Snow area:

Overall view:

1. Lava sea (massively huge, takes several minutes in creative mode to cross). Will need to alter the terrain around it to make it fit in better.
2. Volcano island (very huge, and yet so small on that map)
3. Snow mountains (huuuge)

The area around the coordinates [0,0]

Desolate and unattractive by intention. Since players will have random spawns, the only purpose for the middle of the map is to have a place for players to fight. Therefore I made the area look like an uninviting battlefield to add to the feeling of danger, and the circle in the middle (exactly 0,0) will be built into an arena, while the area surrounding it still lets players roam. No resources other than wood trunks with leaves missing, and occasional coal ore is found. No food to find here.
To put it short, new players should stay away from this area.

That a lot of work, good job I like the volcano island

Screenshots from the center area. Any suggestions on how to make it more sinister?

Lots of caves and some lava, maybe some abandoned village could be cool too.

Found a solution. Changed the biome to Hell and it now looks perfect.
