It's a fine OS. I am currently running Ubuntu with Windows 7 (dual boot). It's fast and simple and it's great for certain purposes.

I heard about an application called Wine for porting Windows programs to Linux, do you know something about it?

I prefer Windows because I am a mainstream sheep.

I prefer osx because I'm a hipster (do hipsters even use osx anymore?)

You all are loosers. Use Mac OS.
.. just kidding. And @Pozzuh - no. Mac OS X is not mainstream system.. It's just working perfectly.
I am currently planning to run Linux on my home server.

Linux is great for anything but gaming atm, hopefully that may change with SteamOS coming in 2014. I tried to switch to Linux few times but I always ran back to windows, mainly because I was missing software that I couldn't ran on Wine, which is just compatibility layer not windows application porter or w/e. I d say that I like linux and as @surtek said, its great for certain purposes but I also hope it will become more general purpose thing one day. If you intend to learn linux, that would be a good call, especially if you plan to start your own business in IT/programming field.
